Politically Exposed Person

Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) are people who, due to their position, exercise or have exercised in the last two years important political functions, as well as the people closely associated with them (family members and related parties).

  • Heads of state, Heads of government, senior politicians and members of government and secretaries and deputy secretaries of state.
  • Members of Parliament.
  • Magistrates of high courts, constitutional courts or other high-level judicial bodies whose decisions are not subject to further appeal, except in exceptional circumstances, including equivalent members of the prosecution service.
  • Members of courts of accounts or central bank councils.
  • Ambassadors or chargés d'affaires.
  • Senior military staff of the armed forces.
  • Members of bodies of administrative, management or supervisory boards for public sector undertakings.
  • Members of the board of directors, directors, deputy directors and equivalent in international organisations.
  • Senior management positions of political parties with parliamentary representation.

  • Within the national area:
    • Senior positions in accordance with the provisions of the rules on prevention and management of conflict of interests of the Spanish Administration, as defined in Act 3/2015 of 30 March, regulating the exercise of senior positions in the General State Administration.
    • Presidents, ministers and other members of autonomous government councils.
    • Members of Parliament in autonomous regions.
    • Senior positions in autonomous region governments.
    • Senior management positions in trade union or business organisations.
    • Senior management positions of political parties with autonomous community representation.
    • Senior management positions in political parties with local representation (municipalities, capitals of province or capitals of Autonomous Communities, and municipalities with over 50,000 inhabitants).
    • People entrusted with prominent public functions in international organisations accredited in Spain.
  • Within the local area (provided that the municipality is the capital of a province, the capital of an Autonomous Community or municipalities with over 50,000 inhabitants):
    • Mayors and councillors.
    • Other senior officials.

  • Spouse, common-law partner or similar relationship.
  • Parents.
  • Children, and their respective spouses, common-law partner or similar relationship.

Any natural person associated in the business field with a person who has or has held the office of public responsibility.
